Assam has always experienced major flood issues during monsoons every year. The flood situation worsened on Monday as over 1,90,675 people across 17 districts of the state have been affected by the heavy downpour.
In the Sivsagar district of Assam, one more life was claimed by the surging flood waters. Districts of Biswanath, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Tamulpur and Udalguri are affected by floods.
On Sunday over 53,000 people across six districts of the state got marooned. Nearly 24,000 locals have been affected in Dhemaji while another 12,000, 8,500, and 7,500 have been stranded in Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, and Dibrugarh districts respectively.
The Brahmaputra is said to be above danger levels at Nimatighat, Dhubri, and Tezpur. The Dikhou River in Sivasagar and the Sankosh River at Golakganj in Dhubri district have also overflowed their banks.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that the flood has affected 120 villages under 11 revenue circles and submerged nearly 3000 hectares of crop area in the flood-hit districts. The situation is expected to deteriorate even further according to ASDMA. Six more districts have also been added to the list of districts destroyed. These districts include Biswanath, Sonitpur, Chiang, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Majuli, Lakhimpur and Tamulpur.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a statement saying that heavy to very heavy rainfalls are expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya on Monday.
At present the statistics of destruction stand at 522 villages being underwater, and several roads, bridges, and embankments in Biswanath, Darrang, Chirang, Dhemaji, and other places are destroyed. A total of 1,30,514 domestic animals and poultry have also been affected by the outburst.
Lakhimpur district in the northern part of Assam is the worst-hit district with 47,338 people being affected followed by Dhemaji at 40,997 where people are trying their best to survive flood water. Moreover, in Golaghat 27,869 people were hit by the flood waters, and 21,435 people suffering due to the flood in Sonitpur district.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and respective district administrations in the flood-affected districts have been constantly engaged in relief and rescue operations.
Flood which is an annual disaster in Assam has claimed 14 lives so far this year. A total of 47 relief camps as well as 45 relief distribution centres in Chirang, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, and Sonitpur districts where 427 displaced people have taken refuge are being set up by the respective district authorities.
