Mob attacks Muslim teen

The incident unfolded earlier that day when Ali Ahmed was seen with a Hindu classmate near a higher secondary school in Narsinghpur. According to reports, a group of Hindu youths approached them, inquiring about Ali’s identity. Upon learning his name and religious affiliation, the group allegedly began assaulting him.

“They enquired my name and when I said Ali Ahmed, they started to hit me. There were 15-20 of them. I don’t know who they were,” Ali told the media. He added, “Many others followed later.”

Classmates turned attackers

Police investigations revealed that two of the assailants were Ali’s classmates. Disturbing videos of the incident quickly went viral on social media. Ali arrested under POCSO Act

Following the assault, Ali’s classmate's family filed a complaint, leading to his arrest under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses POCSO Act. Police have questioned a minor linked to the incident, but no further arrests have been made. A police officer stated, “The girl denied the claims of a relationship and said that they were classmates in class 10.”

Cachar Superintendent of Police, Numal Mahatta, confirmed that Ali’s arrest was based on the girl’s statement and POCSO charges. Another police official revealed that Ali had previously introduced himself to the girl using a different, non-Muslim name and had allegedly sent her an "obscene" video via WhatsApp.

Pressure from Bajrang Dal alleged

Ali’s uncle claimed that the situation escalated after the intervention of Bajrang Dal, a prominent Hindutva group. He accused the organization of pressuring the police to arrest his nephew despite clear evidence of Ali’s injuries in the videos. “Ali was arrested after pressure was put on police by Bajrang Dal. Although my nephew is clearly seen badly injured in the videos, the police haven’t arrested anyone yet,” he said.
