Assam is drowning amid the serious flood prevailing across the state. Almost 31,000 people still reeling under the deluge in 10 districts, said the officials on Tuesday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Red Alert’ in the state, predicting ‘heavy’ to ‘extremely heavy’ rainfall across several districts over the upcoming five days.
The IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Guwahati has issued a ‘Red Alert‘ for 24 hours from Monday, followed by ‘Orange Alerts’ for the subsequent two days and a ‘Yellow Alert’ for Thursday. The ‘Red Alert’ states to take immediate action, while the ‘Orange Alert’ signifies to be prepared for the action and the Yellow Alert stands to watch and be updated.
As per the daily report by Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), over 30,700 people are hit amid severe floods in Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, Sonitpur and Udalguri districts.
The report said that the impact of the floods is worst seen in Lakhimpur, over 22,000 people affected, followed by Dibrugarh with approx. 3,800 people and Kokrajhar with almost 1,800 people.

Moreover, the district administration has been running 25 relief distribution centres in seven districts, however, no relief camps are operating yet.
The ASDMA report added that presently, almost 444 villages are under deluge and 4,741.23 hectares of crop areas have been damaged across the state.
Massive erosions have also been experienced in several places including Biswanath, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Kamrup, Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara, Tamulpur and Udalguri, the report added.
Incidents of landslides have been reported in Dima Hasao, Kamrup Metropolitan and Karimganj due to downpours.
Amid the flood, several roads, bridges, embankments and infrastructures have been damaged in Sonitpur, Nagaon, Nalbari, Baksa, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Goalpara, Golaghat, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, Karimganj and Udalguri.
