A day after quitting the Indian National Congress, former Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan on Tuesday joined the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). 

The official event took place in the Mumbai BJP office as Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis welcomed him to the party. 

Chavan will file nomination for Rajya Sabha

According to reports, Chavan is expected to contest the Rajya Sabha elections as BJP candidate and he will be filing nomination papers tomorrow. During Chavan's joining ceremony, Maharashtra deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said the former Congress leader wanted to "Work for Vikas".

New beginning for Ashok Chavan

Chavan's decision to join the BJP comes as a significant shift in his political career, marking a 'new beginning' for him. Chavan expressed his commitment to working towards the constructive development of Maharashtra under the BJP's banner. 
Meanwhile, Chavan resigned from the primary membership of the Congress party on Monday.
