On Friday, Sameer Wankhede, former zonal director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), filed a petition with the Bombay High Court, requesting the dismissal of an FIR filed against him by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The FIR accuses Wankhede of allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 25 crore from Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan to prevent implicating his son Aryan Khan in the Cordelia cruise drug bust case.

Wankhede, in his petition filed before a vacation bench of the high court, requested that no coercive action be taken against him regarding the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The court will consider his plea at a later time. The CBI recently lodged the FIR against Wankhede and four other individuals.

Aryan Khan was apprehended by the NCB on October 3, 2021, following a raid on the Cordelia cruise ship.

After three weeks, the Bombay High Court granted him bail as the NCB could not provide sufficient evidence to support the accusations against him.

The CBI filed charges against Wankhede and others, including criminal conspiracy, extortion threats, and bribery under the Prevention of Corruption Act, based on a complaint by the NCB.

The investigating agency has accused the NCB, Mumbai Zone, of receiving information in October 2021 regarding the consumption and possession of narcotics substances by several individuals on a private cruise ship. It is alleged that some NCB officers conspired and obtained bribes from the accused involved.

The Delhi High Court granted Wankhede protection from coercive action for a period of five days, allowing him to approach the Bombay High Court if necessary.

Although the CBI summoned Wankhede for questioning in Mumbai on Thursday regarding the case, he did not appear before the agency’s team.
