New Delhi: In a significant development from Arunachal Pradesh's Itanagar, authorities have apprehended a suspect involved in a child sexual assault case. The arrest followed an extensive and coordinated effort between the police forces of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

According to Itanagar Superintendent of Police (SP) Rohit Rajbir Singh, the Women Police Station (WPS) in Itanagar received a written complaint on Tuesday. The complaint detailed that a 10-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by an unknown man on August 31. The young victim, who reported experiencing pelvic pain on September 3, underwent a medical examination which confirmed the assault.

Daughter lured with chips before assault

The victim’s mother discovered that her daughter had been lured with a promise of chips by the perpetrator before the assault took place. Following the complaint, a case was registered at Itanagar WPS under Section 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Inspector Nich Rupa was assigned to investigate the case.

Investigation and Arrest

Recognizing the seriousness of the crime, a special investigation team was formed under the supervision of SP Capital. The team included Sub-Inspectors Samuel Ngupok and Padam Padi, as well as constables Sandeep Yadav, Subhankar Singh, and Lobsang Gyatslen.

The investigation involved thorough witness interviews, CCTV footage analysis, and other technical surveillance methods. This meticulous approach led to the identification of the accused, who was found to be a laborer working in Naharlagun. Following the crime, the suspect fled the area.

Using intelligence inputs, the police conducted late-night raids at the accused's residence in Lakhimpur, Assam, on Thursday, with assistance from the Lakhimpur Police. However, it was discovered that the accused had relocated to Yomcha in the West Siang district with his elder brother for construction work. Coordinating with the West Siang Police, the team managed to locate and arrest the suspect.
