In a significant development concerning former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, an MP/MLA court issued an arrest warrant against him and also summoned him in connection with an Arms Act case. This development arrives as his party, the RJD, which is a prominent member of the opposition's grand INDIA bloc, is gearing up for a robust performance in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The arrest warrant against Lalu Yadav pertains to an Arms Act case dating back to 1995 and 1997. He stands accused of allegedly supplying arms under Form 16 during this period. Specifically, weapons and cartridges were purportedly procured from three different firms between August 23, 1995, and May 15, 1997.
A total of 23 individuals are implicated in this case, with ongoing trials against six of them. Unfortunately, two of the accused have passed away, while 14 remain absconding. In April 1998, the police prepared an absconding panchnama for Lalu Prasad Yadav's son Kundrika Singh.
Abhishek Malhotra, the ADPO of Gwalior District Court, informed the media that due to Lalu Yadav's status as a former Union Minister and Chief Minister, the matter was shifted to the MP-MLA court in Gwalior for adjudication. The chargesheet in this case was filed by the police back in July 1998.
This development could have significant implications for Lalu Prasad Yadav, particularly in the context of his political career and the upcoming elections. It underscores the legal challenges he faces and could potentially impact the dynamics within the political landscape of Bihar and beyond.
