An army personnel got injured after a landmine exploded near the Line of Control (LoC) on Sunday. The explosion took place in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir where the rifleman Gurucharan Singh was on patrol duty, an official said.

During the patrol duty, Gurucharan had accidentally stepped over the landmine in forward Kalsian village in the Nowshera sector. He was shifted to a nearby military hospital where he received a first, following which he was airlifted to Command Hospital Udhampur for specialised treatment, the official said.

Amid the ongoing tensions between the army forces and terrorists along the Line of Control, the army is using landmines to plug the possible infiltration routes to stop armed terrorists from entering this side. The explosive devices also get dislocated due to rain sometimes causing accidental blasts.
