New Delhi: In a strategic move to bolster counter-terrorism efforts, Army Chief General Manoj Pande undertook a crucial visit to the Poonch-Rajouri sector in Jammu and Kashmir. This visit comes in the aftermath of a terror attack in Poonch that claimed the lives of four soldiers on December 21, prompting the army to launch an extensive anti-terrorism operation in the region.

Analysis on ground zero 

General Pande's visit included an on-site inspection of the ground zero at Dhera Ki Gali, where he assessed the progress of ongoing anti-terror operations in Poonch's Surankot and Thanamandi forest belt. This move signifies the army's commitment to addressing the security challenges prevalent in the region.

Amidst heightened emotions following the killing of three civilians detained for questioning after the attack, General Pande delivered a crucial message to the troops. He urged them to conduct operations in the "most professional manner," emphasizing the need for precision and adherence to ethical standards.

In response to the killing of the three detained civilians, a Court of Inquiry has been initiated, and a murder case against unknown persons has been filed by the police. The Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) of the Indian Army, posted on X, stating, "COAS visited Poonch sector and was given an update on the prevalent security situation. COAS interacted with commanders on the ground, exhorted them to conduct the operations in the most professional manner and remain resolute & steadfast against all challenges."
