In a bold criminal act, motorcycle-borne assailants fired shots at a jewellery store in northwest Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar on Saturday evening. According to police reports, two men on bikes arrived at the shop and discharged several rounds into the air outside the premises. Before making their escape, the attackers left behind a note demanding Rs 1 crore in extortion from the jeweller. Sources indicate that the culprits claimed affiliation with the notorious Bambiha Gang.
Law enforcement officials have confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is currently underway. This incident comes on the heels of another similar occurrence in West Delhi's Tilak Nagar, raising alarms across the city as residents grapple with two shooting incidents within a 24-hour span.
On Friday night, a separate shooting was reported outside Singla Sweet Shop in West Delhi's Tilak Nagar. The attack, suspected to be connected to an extortion racket, occurred at around 11 PM. Witnesses reported that two individuals on a motorcycle opened fire at the shop’s front glass, causing panic among customers and staff inside. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. Police recovered four empty cartridges from the scene and have registered a case, with an investigation currently in progress.
Further investigation revealed that two weeks prior to the shooting, the owner of the sweet shop had received an extortion demand of Rs 2 crore from gangster Kapil Sangwan, also known as Nandu. Police teams are actively working to trace the suspects and gather more information related to both incidents.
