Are you a Pani-Puri lover? Here’s what FSSAI find in samples

As per the FSSAI report, out of the 260 samples of Pani Puri collected from across the state, 41 samples were found unsafe as they contained artificial colors that can cause cancer. Another 18 samples are found to be of poor quality which is found unfit for consumption.

The Food and Safety Department Authority of India (FSSAI), Karnataka has made some shocking revelations after the department collected the samples of ‘Pani Puri,’ which is the favorite of most people. According to the report, the state has failed to meet the quality standards and found that 22% of samples are contaminated.

As per data, out of the 260 samples of Pani Puri collected from across the state, 41 samples were found unsafe as they contained artificial colors that can cause cancer. Another 18 samples are found to be of poor quality which is found unfit for consumption.  The decision to test the samples was taken by the department after it received numerous complaints.

The results turned out to be shocking when it was revealed that the eateries are using chemicals and artificial coloring agents, which can have adverse effects on health. 

Taking it to his official X handle, the state health minister asked people to take special care of their health and refrain from consuming food items that affect our health.

Harmful bacteria found in Shawarma

After Pani puri, the department also collected 10 samples of the famous food ‘Shawrama’ from different restaurants including Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike limits, which included harmful bacteria which can be equally dangerous for health.

Ban on artificial colors

The sample testing is followed by a ban on artificial colors in veg, chicken and fish kebabs by the Karnataka government. The decision to ban was taken by the government after 8 out of 39 samples were found using artificial colors in it. The state Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao also announced a fine of Rs 10 lakh and up to 7 years of jail for the vendors who violate the rule.
