Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, on Sunday, likened anti-national narratives to a 'Covid virus' needing to be neutralized. He made these remarks while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 8th international seminar on "Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam: Shrimad Bhagwadgita & Global Unity" in Kurukshetra, Haryana.
Dhankar said, "It should not happen. You blunt it (such narratives). It is like a Covid virus that has to be neutralised."
Dhankhar emphasized the Gita's philosophy as the bedrock of Indian civilization, shaping its culture and governing values. He highlighted India's rapid strides in various fields, aiming to stand as a world power dedicated to peace and global stability.
However, he cautioned against the rising tide of discord and conflict, referencing the ongoing Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Hamas disputes. He called these 'configurations' a source of immense global suffering and underscored the relevance of the Gita's message of harmony in such times.
He said, "We are virtually sitting on a volcano. World's two 'configurations' - one Israel-Hamas and another Ukraine-Russia -are well known."
Dhankhar lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to global peace and non-expansionism, citing his historic statements against territorial aggression. He further criticized the emerging trend of resorting to street protests in response to legal procedures, calling it a deviation from the principles of the Gita.
The Vice President, "And India's Prime Minister has made two historic statements in the past. The first one was nearly one-and-a-half years back that 'we are not living in an era of expansion'. In saying so, the PM took pride this country never in its history has thought of expansion. We have suffered invasions, incursions of all kinds, but we have never believed in expansion policy."
