Another horrific incident of the sexual assault has been reported from violence-hit Manipur. The first case came into the light when a sexual assault video of two women got surfaced on the internet and has come as an outrage among the people of the country.
After that case got reported, victims from the state are getting courage to narrate the shocking ordeal they went through as the authorities encourage them to speak up.
The most recent case has been reported by a 37-year-old married woman from Manipur’s Churachandpur district who was caught by a mob, when she was trying to flee from her burning house with her two sons, niece and sister-in-law. While describing her pain and sorrow, she said that she was gang-raped on May 3, the day violence broke out in the district after a rally by the hill-majority Kukis over the valley-majority Meiteis’ demand for inclusion under the Scheduled Tribes (ST) category.
She also stated that she gathered the courage to speak about the incident after she saw other women filing a complaint about the horrors they went through. According to the sources, she has filed a zero FIR in the case on Wednesday.
The woman is currently living in a relief camp for internally displaced people. The case has been filed under Sections 376D, 354, 120B and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
It is to be noted here, that a ‘zero FIR’ can be filed at any nearest police station. It is not necessary to visit the police station under whose jurisdiction the crime happened. The police station where the case has been filed has to send the FIR to the correct jurisdiction, which then investigate the matter, in this case the complaint has been filed in Churachandpur police station.
