In a heartbreaking development, a 21-year-old student preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) (NEET) took his own life on Thursday night in Kota, Rajasthan, officials confirmed. This tragic incident marks the 18th suicide in the state, with Kota alone accounting for 16 cases, and one each reported in Sikar and Jaipur.Details of the IncidentAccording to Rajesh Tailor, Deputy Police Superintendent of Kota (First), the student, hailing from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, had been residing in Kota for approximately a year. He was found deceased at his rented accommodation in the Jawahar Nagar area on Thursday night.“The situation came to light when the landlord grew concerned after multiple failed attempts to contact the student. Subsequently, the landlord alerted the local police control room. Upon arriving at the scene, Station House Officer Hari Narayan Sharma found the body by breaking down the door,” Tailor reported, according to the Hindustan Times.The police have disclosed that no suicide note was found at the location. “A forensic science laboratory (FSL) team was summoned to investigate the scene. We have also informed the students parents and will be questioning them about any recent changes in his behavior,” said Tailor.The ongoing investigation aims to uncover any underlying issues that may have contributed to the students distress. The case continues to draw attention to the increasing number of suicides among students preparing for competitive exams in Rajasthan.
