State Forest Department on Wednesday has shared another sad news in context to cheetahs’ in Kuno National Park. The department in a statement said, “One more cheetah dies at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh. Reason for death not known yet.”

However, the reason for the death is unclear. After the death of female cheetah on Wednesday, the number of big cats has raised to nine in about five months of period. The female cheetah who died was among the two who were left in open.

According to the reports, nine cheetahs that have died at Kuno National Park also include three cubs. Notably, in September, last year and February, this year, the national park had seen the reintroduction of 20 adult cheetahs brought from Namibia and South Africa. Four cubs had been born there since then at Kuno.

Recently the senior foreign experts also expressed their worry about cheetahs’ death. Another death at Kuno mark a significant setback to the programme, which had been flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Before this, Tejas and Suraj, two male cheetahs had died in a span of four days in the month of July. Meanwhile, some of the experts also connected the deaths with the radio collars used on cheetahs. While the government has dismissed the charges and asked them to come with scientific reason.

According to a press statement released by Kuno few days back, it said, “Implementation Project cheetah is yet to complete a year & it will be premature to conclude the outcome in terms of success and failure since cheetah introduction is a longterm project.”
