Just a few days earlier, on June 18, a newly constructed bridge over the Bakra River in Araria district also collapsed. Fortunately, there were no fatalities in either incident. The Araria bridge was built by the Rural Works Department (RWD) at a cost of Rs 10 crore, but it had not yet been opened to the public as the approach roads were still under construction. When was Araria bridge builtThe bridge over the Bakra river was 182 meters long and built in three parts. Two parts, along with two supporting pillars, collapsed into the river. The construction of this bridge began in 2021 under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Nirman Yojana with an initial cost of Rs 7.79 crore. However, the final cost escalated to Rs 12 crore due to changes in the rivers course and the construction of the approach road. Despite the huge investment, the bridge could not withstand the rivers force and collapsed before it could be inaugurated.
