In the Anantnag encounter, another soldier has gone mission while two others were injured in a fresh gunfight with terrorists that has been underway for more than 48 hours in Jammu and Kashmir. The first gunfight this time broke out early Wednesday morning after the army and the police launched a joint operation to hunt down terrorists in the dense forests of Kokernag in Anantnag.

2 jawans injured, 1 missing in Anantnag encounter

On that day, three officers, including two from the Indian Army and a cop, were killed in an encounter with the terrorists. However, there is no update on the casualty figure on the side of the terrorists, according to the media reports.

The mortal remains of Colonel Manpreet Singh and Major Ashish Dhonchack were brought to their residences in Panipat on Friday morning.

On Thursday, Deputy Superintendent Humayun Bhat was laid to rest at his residence in Budgam. The Indian Army had airlifted the bodies to Srinagar on that evening after the encounter. A homage was paid to their mortal remains on Thursday evening.

Officials said the army was leading the troops based on inputs from specific intelligence, searching for terrorists in a hideout when the gunfight broke out. The terrorists opened fire, killing the Colonel instantly and injuring two officials, who later died in a hospital in Srinagar.

The terrorists are believed to be from ‘The Resistance Front,’ a Lashkar proxy.

New-gen weapons are used to eliminate terrorists

To eliminate the terrorists in the region, the security forces are using new-generation weapons and devices, including strike-capable Heron drones, in their intensified anti-terror operations.

Meanwhile, the army and the Jammu and Kashmir police launched their joint operation on the night of September 12-13. They laid a cordon in search of some terrorists in Garol village, officials said.
