In a heart-wrenching incident on the Simthan-Kokernag Road near the Anantnag region of Jammu and Kashmir, eight individuals lost their lives, including five children, when the car they were traveling in plunged into a gorge. The tragic accident occurred when the vehicle made its way from Madhya Kishtwar. The driver reportedly lost control of the car, leading to the fatal crash.
This tragic event comes in the wake of several other fatal road accidents in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the difficult conditions of the region's roads. Just a few days earlier, two separate traffic incidents claimed twelve lives in the Union Territory's districts of Rajouri and Reasi. On July 21, a cab carrying eight passengers from Thandikassi to Lam veered off a steep road near Chalan village in Rajouri, resulting in the deaths of six individuals. This accident underscored the ongoing dangers faced by travelers in this mountainous region.

On July 13, another tragic incident occurred in the Doda district, where a bus carrying passengers skidded off the road and fell into a 200-feet-deep gorge. This accident resulted in the deaths of two people and left 25 others injured. Doda Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh reported that four of the injured were in critical condition, and five others were referred to the Government Medical College (GMC) Doda for further treatment.
In yet another tragic accident, a Mahindra Bolero carrying four family members rolled 200 feet down into a gorge at Bidda village in Reasi district on July 21 at approximately 3:30 pm. The crash resulted in the immediate deaths of Guddi Devi and her daughter, Shobha. Devi's son, Mukesh Singh, who was driving the vehicle, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. His minor daughter, who was also in the car, was rescued and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Adding to the string of accidents in the region, two individuals lost their lives and three were injured after their car fell into a 200-meter-deep gorge in Himachal Pradesh's Rohru Sub-Division near the state capital, Shimla, on July 24. The incident occurred on the Summerkot-Sungri link road as the victims were traveling to Shimla from Rohru. According to police reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the tragic accident.
