Acid attack in Amroha: In a tragic incident that unfolded in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district, where a 14-year-old girl from Pathra village lost her life due to delayed medical treatment after being abducted and attacked with a corrosive liquid, believed to be acid. The girl, who endured severe burns, passed away on Tuesday after a 350-kilometer journey in search of medical help.
On Monday evening, two men, Prempal Singh, 55, and his son Yogendra, 25, reportedly abducted the girl and took her to a nearby field. According to the victim's family, the attackers thrashed her and poured the corrosive liquid over her in what the police have described as a "revenge attack." Despite her critical condition, the brave girl managed to return home and inform her family of the horrific incident.
In a desperate attempt to save her life, the family took the girl to Aarogyam Clinic in Meerut, 110 kilometers from their village. However, the clinic allegedly refused to treat her, citing the need for a medico-legal case. Her brother, Yashveer Singh, told the media, "Sent back by Aarogyam Clinic, we returned home to Amroha, lodged a police complaint, and took her to Meerut again, this time to LLRM Medical College. By then, we had lost precious time. She might have survived had she received timely treatment."

The police have linked the assault to an ongoing family feud. Amroha SP Anupam Singh revealed that the attack was connected to a 2020 murder case in which Prempal and Yogendra were accused of killing the girl's uncle. The attackers harbored a grudge against her family, believing they were wrongly framed for the murder.
Both Prempal and Yogendra have been arrested and charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 137 (kidnapping), 124 (causing grievous hurt using acid), and 351 (criminal intimidation). With the girl’s death, additional charges are being considered.
Aarogyam Clinic denied receiving the girl as a patient. Pradeep Jain, who runs the clinic, stated, "We did not get any such patient, and moreover, our facility doesn't treat burn patients. There may be confusion with our name." LLRM Medical College in Meerut also declined to comment on the case. Dr. R.C. Gupta, the college's principal, said, "We do not comment on cases like acid attacks. It causes lots of problems."
The incident has caused outrage in the community, with many criticizing the medical facilities for failing to provide timely care. The girl's death has added a grim chapter to the ongoing issue of violence against women and delayed justice in rural India.
