New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday announced the BJP's poll manifesto for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, highlighting ambitious plans to transform the Union Territory into a major tourist destination. Shah revealed that a new tourist hub would be developed near Rajouri, with an additional 5 lakh jobs to be created across the valley.

The manifesto also emphasized the development of tourist centers in Jammu and the welfare of displaced communities, including the Kashmiri Pandit population. "We will launch the Tika Lal Taploo Visthapit Samaj Puranvas Yojana (TLTVPY) to ensure the safe return and rehabilitation of the Kashmiri Pandit community," the manifesto stated.

Eradication of terrorism, rehabilitation

A major focus of the BJP's manifesto is the eradication of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. Amit Shah vowed to issue a white paper to hold accountable those responsible for the rise of terrorism in the region. According to Shah, the Union Territory has shifted from "max terrorism to max tourism" under the BJP's governance.

"Terrorism and separatism persisted until 2014, with various actors destabilizing Jammu and Kashmir. Other governments relied on appeasement politics, but the BJP has dismantled the terror ecosystem. The period from 2014 to 2024 will be remembered as a golden era in India's history," Shah asserted.

Appeasement politics blamed on opposition

Taking aim at opposition parties, Shah accused them of fostering separatism through appeasement tactics. He specifically criticized the National Conference and Congress, questioning how Congress could support National Conference’s manifesto unconditionally. "I urge Rahul Gandhi to clarify whether he supports National Conference’s agenda," Shah stated.

First election since Article 370 abrogation

This will be the first Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir since the revocation of Article 370. The elections are scheduled to be held in three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1, with results to be declared on October 8.
