Amit Shah to chair high-level meet for Jammu-Kashmir security on June 16

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will hold the high-level meeting on June 16. This meeting follows recent terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi, Kathua and Doda, raising significant concerns about security in the region. Shah is also likely to assess the preparedness of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.

A day after Narendra Modi took stock of the situation; Union Home Minister Amit Shah also reviewed and called a high-level security meeting on June 16, to address recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting will focus on enhancing coordination among the police, the Army, and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to strengthen security and improve local intelligence capabilities.

This meeting follows recent terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi, Kathua and Doda, raising significant concerns about security in the region. The Union Home Minister in the past also emphasized the government's zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and the need to create an impenetrable security grid in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Home Minister will give directions to access the preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. Reports cite that officials concerned about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir have briefed the Home Minister about the current scenario.

According to the sources, key attendees of the meeting include senior officials from the Intelligence Bureau, the National Investigation Agency, the Army, and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The discussion will also cover ongoing and future developmental projects in the region to ensure that benefits reach all sections of society.

Recent Terror Attacks in Jammu and Kashmir

Since, June 9, four back-to-back terror attacks have shocked the nation. Reasi, Kathua and Doda witnessed the recent attacks, where nine pilgrims who were travelling in a bus were killed, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan has also lost his life. Apart from this, 1 civilian and 7 security personnel got injured. 

It should be noted that this follow-up meeting has come after PM Modi on Thursday took a comprehensive overview of the situation. PM Modi also had a conversation with Amit Shah about the security forces' deployment and the ongoing counterterrorism efforts. To examine the situation, he also called J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and received an update on the actions being taken by the local government.
