Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday while addressing the Lok Sabha said that the government was ready for the discussions on the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur. But the continuous sloganeering and protest by the opposition parties demanding the PM to speak on the Manipur issue, has led to the adjournment of the proceedings for the day by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

“I am ready for discussion on this in the House. I request the Opposition to let a discussion take place on this issue. It is important that the country gets to know the truth on this sensitive matter,” Shah said.

Meanwhile, Speaker Om Birla also asserted that the House is ready for discussion and the opposition parties cannot decide who will reply to the debate. He further emphasised that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has asserted that the government is ready for discussion.

Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha face adjournments amid opposition demands on the Manipur situation

Monday marked the third day of the Parliament monsoon session when several opposition parties protested in Parliament demanding the PM to speak, which led to the adjournment of the house.

It is to be noted here that PM Modi spoke about the Manipur situation before the beginning of the monsoon session on Thursday and strongly condemned the incident of two Manipur women being paraded naked, and assaulted by a mob.
