Amid the Delhi water crisis, the Supreme Court has raised concerns regarding the presence of a "tanker mafia" and questioned the Delhi Government about steps taken to address this issue. The court warned that if no action is being taken against the alleged tanker mafia, it would direct the Delhi Police to intervene. This development underscores the gravity of the water scarcity situation in the capital and the need for decisive action to combat any elements exacerbating the crisis. The Supreme Court's inquiry highlights the importance of effective governance and accountability in managing vital resources like water.

A vacation bench consisting of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Prasanna B Varale directed the AAP Government to submit an affidavit by 4 PM today, outlining the actions taken to address the water mafia issue and prevent water wastage in Delhi.

SC criticized AAP govt

Interestingly, while the Supreme Court criticized the AAP government for its handling of the water crisis in the national capital, the Kejriwal administration has been busy blaming the Haryana government for allegedly depriving Delhi of its rightful water share.

AAP leaders staged protest

On Monday, June 10th, several Delhi women and AAP leaders staged a protest against the Haryana government, accusing it of withholding Delhi's water share. AAP's Delhi State Vice-President and MLA, Kuldeep Kumar, along with colleagues Shiv Charan Goel, Vinayy Mishra, Somdutt Sharma, and Women’s Wing President Sarika Chaudhary, participated in the demonstration near Haryana Bhawan, Mandi House. Protesters denounced the BJP for denying Delhi its water allocation and demanded swift action from the Central and Haryana governments to release Delhi’s share of water.

Delhi LG blamed AAP govt

Meanwhile, in a statement, Delhi’s Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena’s office disclosed that Saxena had a phone conversation with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday (June 11) regarding the ongoing water crisis in Delhi. The LG office asserted that Haryana has been releasing water into the Yamuna river for Delhi through the Munak canal as per the city’s allocated quota.

Contrarily, the LG office blamed the AAP government for the water shortage, attributing it to the tanker mafia allegedly colluding with the ruling AAP to siphon water from the canal.
