A landslide on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in the Ramban area has forced the suspension of the yearly pilgrimage from Jammu to Srinagar to the holy cave shrine of Shri Amarnath.

According to the officials, the Yatra will also be suspended from Pantha Chowk to Jammu base camp. The same will be open for traffic movement soon after the clearance of debris from the highway.

The traffic police of Jammu and Kashmir said that Jammu-Srinagar NH is blocked due landslide at T2 Marog Ramban. The advisory on the official Twitter handle says, “Traffic update at 0850 hrs Restoration work at T2 Marog, Ramban on NH-44 is still in progress. Public in general is requested to avoid journey till restoration work is completed.”

The annual 62-day long yatra which commenced on July 1 will culminate on August 31.

Meanwhile, an advisory has also been issued by the traffic department, which says:

Prior to this, on Friday, the Divisional Commissioner of Jammu and the Additional Director General of Police for the Jammu Zone reviewed the security preparations for the upcoming Budda Amarnath Yatra, which will start on August 17.

“The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh accompanied by Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar and DIG Rajouri Poonch Range Haseeb Mughal convened a security review meeting with the Police and Civil administration and took stock of the security scenario in wake of forthcoming Independence Day Celebration and Budda Amarnath Yatra which commences from 17th August 2023,” said a statement of the Jammu and Kashmir police.
