Protesters gathered in large numbers and began pelting stones at the security personnel present at the site. In response, the police fired tear gas shells and used lathi-charge to control the mob. Several officers sustained injuries, and a police officer along with two others from the crowd were hospitalised.Claims and current situationThe Hindu side has alleged that the mosque was constructed on the site of an ancient Haririhar temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Meanwhile, to prevent the spread of rumours, internet services in the area have been suspended.DIG Muniraj G provided an update on Monday, stating, The situation in Sambhal is currently peaceful. Police have been deployed at important places. He confirmed four fatalities, including one person who succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment in Moradabad.
