New Delhi: In a shocking case of medical negligence, a private hospital in Aligarh is under intense scrutiny after a towel was left inside a woman’s abdomen during a cesarean delivery. The incident, which came to light last week, has sparked widespread outrage and prompted the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the district, Dr. Neerah Tyagi, to initiate a formal investigation.

Negligence uncovered after health deterioration

Vikas Kumar’s 28-year-old wife was admitted to Shiv Mahima Hospital on GT Road, Aligarh, for the delivery of their twin daughters. Following the procedure, the new mother began experiencing severe abdominal pain. Despite her persistent complaints, hospital doctors dismissed her concerns and prescribed medication, assuring her that it was a normal post-operative condition.

As her condition worsened, the family decided to seek a second opinion at another hospital. It was there that the horrifying discovery was made— a surgical towel had been left inside her abdomen. A second surgery was immediately performed to remove the foreign object, but the woman continues to suffer from an infection caused by the oversight.

Family demands justice

Vikas Kumar has accused Shiv Mahima Hospital of gross negligence and putting his wife's life in jeopardy. “I have provided the health department with a video of the second surgery, where the towel was removed from my wife's abdomen. She is still not recovered and is suffering from an infection. We demand action against the hospital and the doctors who put her life at risk,” Kumar stated.

The CMO, Dr. Tyagi, confirmed that an investigation has been launched to address the allegations of medical negligence and overcharging by the hospital. “A team has been formed to investigate the matter, and action will be taken against those responsible,” she assured. The hospital's owner, Dr. Dharmendra Singh, has yet to respond to inquiries about the incident.
