Amidst the tussle between AIADMK and BJP, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Raghav Chadha shared a post on microblogging site X (formerly known as Twitter), invoking the unity of the INDIA and the current political landscape.

“Whenever someone tried to break ‘INDIA,’ it itself broke and disintegrated… The same thing happened today,” stated Chadha on the ongoing events.

“Our INDIA alliance was strong yesterday and is strong even today, but sadly, the NDA, which throws stones at other people’s houses, could not save its own house.” As a surprising turn of events, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) announced the termination of its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The AIADMK’s decision to sever ties with the BJP comes amidst escalating tensions between the two parties. AIADMK leader D Jayakumar lashed out at the BJP’s state chief, K Annamalai, for his criticism of Dravidian icon C N Annadurai, a figure of significant reverence in Tamil Nadu.

Jayakumar asserted that his party’s supporters would not tolerate any disparagement of their late chief minister or other AIADMK leaders.

Provocation from BJP

Annamalai, known for his provocative comments targeting both the ruling DMK and AIADMK, has raised questions within the AIADMK camp about his role as a spokesperson for the BJP’s central leadership. The BJP, eager to gain ground in the state ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, has faced increasing scrutiny for its attempts to carve out a niche in Tamil Nadu.

D Jayakumar expressed his party’s stance on the matter, saying, “We can’t accept constant criticism of our leaders. The BJP president of Tamil Nadu, Annamalai, has already criticized our leader, Jayalalithaa. We then passed a resolution condemning Annamalai. He ought to have halted this. He is criticizing the general secretary, Periyar, and Anna. This is unacceptable to the cadre. We must work on the field tomorrow. We had no choice but to make this announcement. We won’t be affected by this choice in any way. We are sure that we will win”.

Responding to Jayakumar’s remarks, Narayanan Thirupathy, vice president of the Tamil Nadu BJP, conceded, “AIADMK leader D Jayakumar is right, there is no alliance right now. An alliance is always a two-way lane”.
