Modi asserted that governance must ensure access for all, especially in the Global South, where resources like power, talent, data, and finances are often lacking.

He highlighted AI's potential to transform lives through advancements in health, education, and agriculture, accelerating progress towards Sustainable Development Goals. To achieve this, Modi urged global collaboration, pooling resources and talent to develop open-source systems that promote trust and transparency.
Modi stressed the importance of building quality, unbiased datasets and addressing concerns related to cybersecurity, disinformation, and deepfakes. He also acknowledged the fear of job losses due to AI, but pointed out that history shows technology shifts the nature of work, creating new opportunities. He called for investments in skilling and re-skilling initiatives to prepare people for an AI-driven future. Modi stated, "Loss of jobs is AI's most feared disruption, but history has shown that work does not disappear due to technology, only its nature changes. We need to invest in skilling and re-skilling our people for an AI-driven future".
India's AI Leadership and Digital Infrastructure
Modi highlighted India's leadership in AI adoption and techno-legal solutions for data privacy. He mentioned the country's successful establishment of a digital public infrastructure for over 1.4 billion people at a low cost, built around an open and accessible network with regulations and diverse applications. He added that India is developing AI applications for public good and has one of the world's largest AI talent pools. India is also building its own Large Language Model, considering its diverse linguistic landscape, and has a public-private partnership model to provide affordable computing power to startups and researchers.
Sustainable and Ethical AI: A Call for Global Standards
Modi advocated for collective global efforts to establish AI governance and standards that uphold shared values, address risks, and build trust. He also emphasized the need for efficient and sustainable AI models in terms of size, data needs, and resource requirements, noting the human brain's efficiency compared to machines. Modi concluded by emphasizing that humans, guided by a sense of responsibility, hold the key to our collective future in the AI age.
