Wall collapse in Agra (X/SachinGupta)

A devastating incident occurred on Sunday evening when a crumbling rear wall of the District Magistrate's residence complex in Agra collapsed, leading to the death of a seven-year-old girl and injuring three others. The collapse, which happened around 6:15 PM, buried four individuals under the debris.

Collapse Details

The incident took place at the District Magistrate's residence complex on MG Road, a sprawling property enclosed by a deteriorating boundary wall. Recent rains had weakened the already fragile structure, causing it to give way. The collapsed wall, approximately seven and a half feet high, fell into the Mohanpura slum area behind it. Among those buried were Charan Singh, who operates a cart, his nine-year-old daughter Aarti alias Lalo, along with Ramveer and his eight-year-old daughter Tamanna.

Witnesses who heard the wall collapse rushed to the scene, fearing further damage. They began removing debris despite concerns of additional collapses. After approximately 20 minutes of intense effort, the injured were extracted and transported to SN Medical College. Tragically, Aarti was pronounced dead on arrival. Her father and two others remain hospitalized but are reported to be in stable condition.

Official Response and Current Status

According to the sources, the District Magistrate Bhanu Chandra Goswami quickly arrived at the scene, coordinating the emergency response and ensuring that ambulances were dispatched to the medical facility. BJP MLA Dr GS Dharmesh also visited the site and the hospital, assuring the provision of the best medical care for the injured. ACP Sadar Dr Sukanya Sharma confirmed that the deceased’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and the condition of the injured is now stable.
