Agniveer Jawan shoots himself at Agra Air Force station amid controversy

Srikant, a resident of Pachrukhiya New Basti (Narayanpur) of Revati police station area, had joined the Air Force in the year 2022 as a sentry under Agniveer recruitment. Currently, he was posted at the Air Force Station in Agra. On Tuesday night, the fellow soldiers called the family members and informed them about Shrikant's death.

New Delhi: In a heartbreaking incident that unfolded late Tuesday night, 22-year-old Agniveer Jawan Shrikant Kumar Chaudhary took his own life by shooting himself with a government INSAS rifle in the Ariser Technicians Area of Shahganj. Originally from Narayanpur, Ballia, Shrikant had been serving under the Agniveer scheme for the past one and a half years. His sudden death has left the community and his family in shock and mourning.

When it took place? 

The incident took place at around 1.30 am. Inspector Shahganj Amit Kumar Maan said that the Jawan shot himself in the middle of the forehead. The police did not find any suicide note from the spot. His brother-in-law and relatives took away the body. The family has not made any written complaint in this regard. If they give a written complaint, the police will investigate at their own level.

Brother came to Agra to take the body of the Air Force Jawan

Air Force Jawan Shrikant died on Tuesday night after being shot under suspicious circumstances while on duty at Agra Air Force Station. Elder brother Siddhant reached Agra on Wednesday. When the body of the Jawan reached the village on Thursday morning, there was an uproar. After the last darshan at the door for some time, the body was taken to Hukumchhpara Chhapra Ghat of the river Ganges. There the Air Force personnel gave the guard of honor. After this, the last rites of the soldier were performed. Elder brother Siddhant lit the funeral pyre.

Joined Air Force in year 2022

After this, Shrikant's elder brother Siddhant, who works in Chandigarh, reached Agra on Wednesday. Here, there was mourning in every village since the information was received. Father Manji Chaudhary also reached the village from Kolkata.

After post-mortem etc., Siddhant, who left Agra with the body, reached the village at around 11 am on Thursday. As soon as the body of the soldier arrived, a crowd of people gathered at his door. A contingent of 45 Air Force personnel who arrived from Bihar's Bihta gave a guard of honour, after which the last rites were performed.

Board of Inquiry is investigating

Srikant Chaudhary's family tried to get information about the exact cause of death, but the officials refrained from telling. On Thursday, the family also asked the Air Force Corporal B. Singh, who accompanied the body, about the cause of death. However, he only said that the death was due to a gunshot. He said that a Board of Inquiry has been formed to investigate the incident.

He was shot with an INSAS rifle

Inspector Shahganj Amit Kumar Maan said that the police sent the soldier to the hospital with the help of Air Force personnel. He was declared dead there. During investigation, the police found out that 22-year-old Shrikant Kumar Chaudhary, son of Manji, had a government INSAS rifle with him during duty. The soldier shot him between the eyebrows with the rifle, which passed through the upper part of the head. The INSAS rifle has been sent to the forensic lab in Agra for necessary action.

This is the second suicide

In 2019, the body of Himanshu Singh (32) was found hanging in a residence located in the Air Force campus. He was working as a squadron leader. He was originally a resident of Moradabad.
