In a dramatic escalation of tensions, workers from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) launched a retaliatory attack on the convoy of Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray in Thane on Saturday. This action came just a day after an attack on MNS leader Raj Thackeray's convoy, where his car was pelted with betel nuts and tomatoes. The MNS workers, in a show of defiance, hurled coconuts and cow dung at Uddhav Thackeray's convoy, claiming it was a direct response to the earlier incident.
A video that surfaced online shows the moment Uddhav Thackeray’s convoy was ambushed. As the vehicles moved along a road in Thane, a group of men, lying in wait, sprang into action, launching coconuts and cow dung at the convoy before fleeing the scene. The footage quickly gained traction, highlighting the growing animosity between the two political factions.
The Thane police swiftly responded to the incident, taking over 20 individuals into custody. A senior official confirmed the ongoing investigation, stating that a formal case registration is in progress. Law enforcement's prompt action underscores the seriousness of the situation and the potential for further unrest.
Reacting to the incident, Shiv Sena UBT leader Anand Dubey condemned the attack and directly criticised MNS chief Raj Thackeray. He also called for the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis, citing a failure to maintain law and order. "This attack is a failure of the state government. The law and order situation has completely collapsed, and the home minister should resign," Dubey declared.
Dubey further emphasised the severity of the situation, questioning the security provided to Uddhav Thackeray. "Despite having Z-category security and being the son of Balasaheb Thackeray, if he is not safe in the state, how can they ensure the safety of ordinary people?" he asked.
