US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller responded to remarks made by a US official about Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's arrest on suspicion of money laundering related to the Delhi excise policy case by saying that they support just, open, and prompt legal procedures on the matter.

Miller was asked about his response to India's summoning of the US ambassador for remarks regarding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's arrest and the suspension of the Congress party's bank accounts during a news briefing.

In response to comments made by a US official regarding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's apprehension on charges of money laundering in connection with the Delhi excise policy case, US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller stated that the US supports fair, transparent, and expeditious legal proceedings in this regard.

During a press conference, Miller was questioned about his reaction to India's request for the US ambassador's remarks about Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's arrest and the suspension of the Congress party's bank accounts.

It is worth noting that the statement from the US came after India on Wednesday strongly objected to the remarks of the United States State Department Spokesperson about certain legal proceedings in India.

The Minister of External Affairs defended India's legal system and emphasized its independence and dedication to impartial and expedient judgments.

Taking it to the official social media handle, MEA said, “In diplomacy, states are expected to be respectful of the sovereignty and internal affairs of others. This responsibility is even more so in the case of fellow democracies. It could otherwise end up setting unhealthy precedents. India's legal processes are based on an independent judiciary that is committed to objective and timely outcomes. Casting aspersions on that is unwarranted.”
