Spice makers MDH and Everest are now on US Food and Drug Adminstration (FDA) lens after Hong Kong banned sales of some of their products for allegedly containing high levels of a cancer-causing pesticide. According to reports, the US Food Safety Department (USFDA) has started collecting information about the products of MDH and Everest after the ban in Hong Kong and Singapore.

MDH and Everest claim about their products

Apart from India, spices of MDH and Everest are in good demand in Europe, Asia and North America. MDH and Everest have not immediately given any statement regarding this, although they have been claiming that their products are absolutely safe.

These countries banned MDH and Everest

A few days ago, Hong Kong and Singapore had stopped their citizens from using some blended spices of MDH and Everest. The Food Safety Department of Hong Kong and Singapore say that pesticide ethylene oxide has been found in some spice mixes of these companies. Hong Kong has banned ADH's Madras Curry Powder, Sambhar Masala Mix Powder and Curry Powder Mixed Masala. Whereas Singapore has stopped its citizens from using Everest's fish curry masala powder. The company has also been ordered to withdraw it from the market.

European Union list

Meanwhile, the European Union has released a list of 527 Indian products in which presence of ethylene oxide or other chemicals has been found. These include almonds, spices, herbs and even many products with organic certificate exported from India. According to the latest report of the European Union, out of 527 food products imported from India, 313 dry fruits and sesame items, 60 types of herbs and spices, 48 dietary food and supplement items and the remaining 34 other products also have the potential to cause cancer. Chemicals have been found.

India government is on alert

Between the ban of Hong Kong and Singapore and the release of the European Union's list, the Indian government is alert about the whole matter. The government has given strict orders to check the products going to Singapore and Hong Kong. The Indian Spices Board is reviewing the ban of Hong Kong and Singapore.

Not only this, India's food safety regulator 'Food Safety and Security Standards Authority of India' (FSSAI) has started releasing spice products of different brands from across the country. He is checking the quality of all these. FSSAI says that it keeps doing such checks from time to time.
