Kerala police have filed a rape case against prominent actor Siddique following allegations made by a young actress. The complaint led to Siddique's resignation from his role as General Secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA).

Background of the Complaint

The young actress, who previously aspired to enter the Malayalam film industry, came forward after the release of the Hema Committee report. This report highlighted widespread sexual abuse and gender discrimination within the industry. The report's revelations prompted several actors to voice their grievances against colleagues.

According to police sources, the FIR was registered on Wednesday under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) at Thiruvananthapuram city police limits. The complaint alleges that the incident took place in 2016 at a hotel in the city. The investigation will be conducted by a special team assigned to handle all complaints arising from the Hema Committee's findings.

Siddique's Response

In response to the allegations, Siddique approached the police, claiming that the charges against him are part of a criminal conspiracy. He alleged that a group is deliberately attempting to damage the reputation of the Malayalam film industry and requested the police uncover the truth behind these allegations.

In related news, a case was also registered against director Ranjith on Monday. A Bengali actress accused him of inappropriate behavior during pre-production discussions for a 2009 film.
