Update (May 25, 5:15 pm): After meeting with the NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said that they will seek time from Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi to meet them on Centre’s ordinance against Delhi government.
Kejriwal lashed out at Centre for the ordinance, taking it to Twitter, Kejriwal said, “After 8 years, the Supreme Court did justice to the people of Delhi and gave them rights. But the Centre reversed the SC decision by bringing an Ordinance in 8 days. I thank Sharad Pawar ji and NCP that they have assured us that they will not allow this bill to pass in Rajya Sabha. If all the opposition parties come together, then this bill can fall in the Rajya Sabha.”
While backing Kejriwal’s decision, Sharad Pawar said, “There is a crisis in the country and it’s not an issue limited to Delhi. NCP and the people of Maharashtra will support Kejriwal. We will also talk to other leaders to support Kejriwal. We must focus on bringing all non-BJP parties together.”
In his effort to seeking support for the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP’s) fight against the Union government’s ordinance for the control of services in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, along with Raghav Chadha, Atishi and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann meet Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar at Yashwantrao Chavan Centre at Nariman Point in Mumbai on Thursday.
The Centre published an order last Friday to establish a procedure for the posting and transfer of Group-A officials in Delhi. The Supreme Court’s ruling on service control caused the AAP administration to label the action as a ruse.
The ordinance was passed a week after the Supreme Court gave the elected government jurisdiction over all services in Delhi, with the exception of police, public order, and land. In order to transfer Group-A officials from the DANICS cadre and to conduct disciplinary actions against them, it proposes to establish a National Capital Civil Service Authority.
Earlier on Wednesday, Arvind Kejriwal with other AAP ministers met with Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray.
The meeting with the senior party leaders across the nation is to solicit his support to fight against Centre’s ordinance. After their meeting, Kejriwal attacked the federal government, claiming that the order demonstrated that the Narendra Modi administration did not respect the Supreme Court. He further charged that the CBI and ED were being employed by the Centre to try to overthrow state administrations. Notably, Uddhav Thackeray also backed Kejriwal.
