On fifth day, AAP leader Atishi ends her indefinite hunger strike due to drop in sugar level

New Delhi: Delhi's Water Minister Atishi concluded her hunger strike on Tuesday after her health worsened, leading to her hospitalization, according to statements by party MP Sanjay Singh. Atishi had undertaken the hunger strike to protest against the Haryana government's alleged failure to release Delhi's share of water, exacerbating the water crisis in the national capital. Her decision to end the strike came amidst concerns over her declining health, prompting medical intervention. Atishi's hunger strike highlighted the ongoing water supply disputes between Delhi and neighboring states, emphasizing the critical nature of water management in the region.
 


Delhi's Water Minister Atishi has been admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital in the early hours of Tuesday, following a deterioration in her health during an indefinite hunger strike. Atishi had been protesting against the Haryana government's alleged failure to release Delhi's rightful share of water, exacerbating a water crisis in the national capital.

Atishi on hunger strike 

Atishi's hunger strike, now in its fifth day, intensified as she demanded that Haryana release 100 million gallons per day (MGD) of water allocated to Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) reported that her health had rapidly declined, prompting doctors to advise immediate hospitalization due to dangerously low blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

The AAP, in a statement, underscored Atishi's commitment to securing water rights for Delhi's residents, emphasizing that she was risking her health to draw attention to the critical issue. Atishi vowed to continue her hunger strike until Haryana complies with the water sharing agreement and opens the gates of the Hathnikund Barrage. AAP X handle informed about her health and said, " Her blood sugar level dropped to 43 at midnight and to 36 at 3 AM, after which LNJP Hospital doctors advised immediate hospitalization.
