The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is set to hold a key meeting today (December 31) following party supremo Arvind Kejriwal's return from a 10-day meditation retreat.

The National Executive and National Council gathering will take place via video conference, the party announced Saturday.

AAP to hold meeting with top leaders today

The summit comes at a crucial time for AAP as Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal faces a third summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in an ongoing excise policy investigation.

Kejriwal flew back to Delhi on Saturday after completing a Vipassana meditation programme in Punjab's Hoshiarpur. "Returned today after 10 days of Vipassana meditation. This spiritual practice brings immense peace. From today onwards, we will start serving the public again with new energy," Kejriwal said in a tweet in Hindi yesterday.

Punjab's Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann accompanied Kejriwal as he left the meditation centre.

What’s key agenda of meeting?

The upcoming AAP meeting will likely address these latest developments as the party looks to chart its next steps.

Kejriwal's 10-day retreat may provide him with renewed energy to deal with the ongoing investigations.

Is Kejriwal summoned by ED again?

Sources say Kejriwal is likely to appear before the ED on 3 January regarding the excise case. This would be in response to a third summons issued by the agency on 22 December asking him to come in on 3 January.

Earlier, the probe agency summoned Kejriwal on 18 December to appear on 21 December, but the Chief Minister did not show up. The first notice came on 2 November, which Kejriwal dismissed as "vague, motivated and unsustainable in law." He alleged the summons were politically motivated.

Kejriwal was also summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in April over the matter. He was not named as an accused when the CBI filed its first information report in August 2022.

Why Manish Sisodia was arrested?

In February 2023, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI amid accusations of irregularities in the now-withdrawn 2021-22 Delhi excise policy. The policy was scrapped last year amid claims of misconduct by the opposition.
