New Delhi: In a resounding victory, the Left has clinched all four seats in the Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union Election 2024. The Left's triumph underscores its enduring influence and resonance within the student community at JNU.
The election, held after a four-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, witnessed a fierce contest between the Left and the RSS-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). The United Left alliance, comprising the All India Students Association (AISA), Democratic Students Federation (DSF), Students Federation of India (SFI), and All India Students Federation (AISF), emerged victorious over its rival, the ABVP.
The election results reveal the overwhelming support garnered by the Left candidates across all key positions:

- Umesh Chandra Ajmira (ABVP): 1787 votes
-Vice President:
- Avijit Ghosh (Left): 2135 votes
- Deepika Sharma (ABVP): 1545 votes
-General Secretary:
- Arjun Anand (ABVP): 1992 votes
- Priyanshi Arya (BAPSA, Left Supported): 2719 votes
-Joint Secretary:
- Govind Dangi (ABVP): 2159 votes
- Mohd Sajid (Left): 2336 votes
Since its inception in 1969, Jawaharlal Nehru University has been a bastion of leftist student politics. Organizations such as the Students Federation of India (SFI), affiliated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist), have wielded significant influence, with SFI winning the presidency 22 times. Additionally, the All India Students Association (AISA) has secured victory in this prestigious position 11 times.
