Wepaon used to kill Baba Siddique: In the recent assassination of NCP leader Baba Siddique, the weapon used, a 9.9mm pistol, has come under intense scrutiny. This firearm, widely used by paramilitary forces, police, and criminal gangs, is known for its precision, versatility, and deadly efficiency.

Features of the 9.9mm pistol

First introduced in India in 1981, the 9.9mm pistol was developed in collaboration with John Inglis & Company at the Ishapore Ordnance Factory in West Bengal. Designed for riot control and encounters, the pistol is capable of accurate shots at targets up to 50 yards away. Its reduced recoil improves stability, making it easier to fire accurately with both hands if necessary. The weapon holds a 13-round magazine, allowing users to either fire rapidly or one round at a time.

A reliable choice

The 9.9mm pistol boasts advanced safety features, including mechanisms that prevent accidental discharge, even if dropped with the trigger lock engaged. This makes it a reliable choice for law enforcement and criminals alike. The pistol's ability to penetrate bullet-proof vehicles has added to its reputation as a dangerous and effective weapon.

Notorious use among criminals

The weapon’s popularity extends beyond law enforcement to the underworld, with notorious gangster Sriprakash Shukla being one of its well-known users. Shukla was often seen carrying two 9.9mm pistols, a testament to the gun’s trustworthiness among criminals.

Police investigation underway

As investigations into Baba Siddique’s assassination continue, the focus has shifted to Lawrence Bishnoi, currently in Gujarat’s Sabarmati Jail. Authorities are seeking court permission to interrogate Bishnoi for potential connections to the shooters. The investigation is also exploring Siddique’s possible rivalries, including his relationship with Bollywood actor Salman Khan and land disputes.

Interestingly, while the 9.9mm pistol was used in Siddique’s murder, Bishnoi’s preferred firearm is the Turkish-made Zigana pistol, which is smuggled into India from Pakistan via drones. The Zigana, with a magazine capacity of 15 rounds, is well-regarded for its reliability among criminals.

As the Mumbai Crime Branch and Special Cell intensify their efforts, the truth behind the motives and methods used in this high-profile case will gradually emerge.
