New Delhi: Four members of a criminal gang, who dressed themselves as the associates of dreaded gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and threatened doctors and other medical practitioners demanding money, were arrested by Delhi Police. Former street hawker, Harsh, who sells luxurious cars today as result of his illegal trade.
The case began when the chief medical officer of Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, Dr. Animesh, received a threatening letter demanding money for "protection." The doctor claimed that the letter was delivered by a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. This led the police to form a team and launch multiple operations in an effort to trace the culprits.
The first lead came when the police traced the bank account that had been mentioned in the threatening letter. This was found to be associated with Arun Verma. Subsequent surveillance led to the identification of the key suspects, one of whom was Rishi Sharma, who was arrested after being identified on CCTV footage purchasing liquor from a store in northeast Delhi.
The gang started running a mobile tower scam, but they later shifted to extortion after the scheme became ineffective. They obtained contact details of doctors available in public domains and wrote threatening letters to them, demanding money.
