New Delhi: In a harrowing turn of events on Wednesday afternoon, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link became the scene of a heartbreaking incident when a 38-year-old man took his own life by jumping from the bridge's railing.

CCTV footage captured the Tata Nexon of K Shriniwas, an engineer from Dombivli, coming to a halt at the Nhava Sheva end of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, known as Atal Setu, at approximately 12:30 pm. Moments later, Mr Shriniwas exited his vehicle, approached the bridge's railing, and tragically leaped to his death.

Severe financial difficulties

Family members disclosed that Mr Shriniwas had been grappling with severe financial difficulties, which they believe pushed him to take such an extreme step. According to authorities, Mr Shriniwas had previously attempted suicide by ingesting a floor cleaner while working in Kuwait in 2023.

Police action in this matter 

Promptly notified of the incident, the Navi Mumbai Police mobilized a search operation in collaboration with Atal Setu rescue teams, coastal police units, and local fishermen. Despite ongoing efforts, authorities continue their endeavors to locate Mr Shriniwas's body. The tragic incident has left the local community shaken, prompting reflections on mental health challenges exacerbated by financial pressures.
