Assam is still deluged under water amid the flood condition, affecting more than 4 lakh people across nine districts of the state, said an official.

Three dead, and 4 lakh people affected in the Assam flood: ASDMA

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), at least three people have lost their lives in this year’s first flood wave in different parts of the state.

Approximately, 4,07,700 people are hit by the deluged in nine districts including Baksa, Barpeta, Darrang, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Nalbari and Udalguri, said ASDMA report.

Relief camps running in flood-hit districts 

However, the water level has begun to recede in some areas, the official said. The administration has been operating almost 100 relief camps in the flood-hit districts, where over 81,000 people have taken shelter. Also, the administration is running 119 relief distribution centres in five districts. 

Massive crop areas damaged 

Currently, 1,118 villages are under water, and 8,469.56 hectares of crop area has been damaged or soil erosion, the ASDMA report said. 

The report said that massive soil erosion was witnessed in Baksa, Barpeta, Sonitpur, Dhubri, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, Nalbari, South Salmara, and Udalguri.

The destruction caused due to floods in Assam

The incidents of landslides have been reported in different places in Assam’s Karimganj amid the heavy downpour.

Moreover, the flood has also damaged the embankments, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure in Daarrang, Sonitpur, Kamrup, Golaghat, Nalbari, Barpeta, Baksa, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Goalpara, Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Udalguri, and Lakhimpur, it added.

Urban areas were inundated at many places in Darrang district, the report said, adding, the Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark at Tezpur and Neamatighat.
