Kochi: A 25-year-old YouTuber has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman he befriended through social media, police reported on Sunday.
The arrest was made by Kalamassery police based on a complaint filed by the victim. The accused, identified as Mohammed Nishal from Kozhikode, was taken into custody on Saturday, according to an official police statement.
As per the complaint, the YouTuber allegedly sexually assaulted the woman twice by threatening to release her private photos and videos online. He also warned her that he would send the compromising content to her husband if she did not comply, police revealed.
Authorities further stated that preliminary investigations suggest the accused has been involved in similar offenses, with cases registered against him in multiple police stations.
Following his arrest, Nishal was presented before a local court, which subsequently remanded him to judicial custody. Police are continuing their investigation into the case and are examining if more victims have been affected by the accused’s alleged actions.
