New Delhi: In a recent case involving a bomb threat to a private school in Greater Kailash, south Delhi, police have identified a 14-year-old student as the primary suspect. According to authorities, the teenager sent threatening emails to several schools as an excuse to avoid attending classes. During interrogation, the student admitted to sending the email out of a desire to skip school. To enhance the perceived credibility of the threat, he included mentions of two additional schools in his message. The Delhi Police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.

On Friday, the private school in Greater Kailash received an email claiming that a bomb had been planted on its premises. The threat was quickly investigated, with bomb detection teams and a dog squad deployed to search the school. "The email indicated that a bomb was planted in the school," a police officer reported. However, after a comprehensive search, no suspicious items were found, and the threat was declared a hoax. "Legal action has been initiated following the investigation," the Delhi Police confirmed.

Recent trends in bomb threats

This incident is part of a broader pattern of bomb threats in Delhi. In May, numerous colleges, including Lady Sri Ram College, Hansraj College, and Ramjas College, received similar threats, all of which were later deemed hoaxes after thorough checks. Notably, North Block and other institutions such as Gargi College, Zakir Husain College, and several more were targeted.

Additionally, Delhi's Chacha Nehru Hospital received a bomb threat on April 30, followed by over 150 schools receiving threats from a Russia-based email service on May 1. On May 12, bomb threats were sent to twenty hospitals, IGI Airport, and the Northern Railways' CPRO office from a Cyprus-based mailing service. A subsequent wave of threats on May 14 targeted seven Delhi hospitals and Tihar Jail, again from the Cyprus-based service.

The Delhi Police continue to investigate these incidents, seeking to address the ongoing issue of false bomb threats and ensure the safety of the city's institutions.
