14 dead, 27 injured as bus collides with truck head-on in Assam’s Dergaon

A bus carrying 45 people collided with a truck in Assam's Dergaon on Wednesday morning, killing 14 people. Several injured were rushed to hospital for further treatment.

In a tragic incident, a bus carrying 45 people collided with a truck in Assam’s Dergaon early Wednesday at around 5 am, killing as many as 14 people and 27 others were injured, said the police.

Bus-truck collision in Assam, kills 14

Reportedly, the accident occurred when a bus carrying a picnic party with 45 passengers to Tinsukia's Tilinga Mandir collided with a truck in Dergaon.

According to the police, the picnic party embarked on their journey around 3 am and as they were about to reach their destination, a coal-laden truck coming from Margherita collided with the bus head-on.

Injured admitted to Jorhat Medical College

Upon receiving the information, the police rushed to the site to rescue the injured passengers. They were then taken to the Jorhat Medical College for further treatment.

Briefing about the incident, an official said that several injured people were in critical condition.

Deceased bodies sent for autopsy

Meanwhile, the police have recovered 14 bodies of the deceased passengers, who died on the spot and then sent them for autopsy.

Police are still investigating the matter.
