Uttar Pradesh: Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, witnessed a deeply disturbing crime as a 10-year-old girl was raped and murdered while on her way to a Durga Puja pandal. The childs body was discovered in a field, and the accused, Mukesh, was arrested following a police encounter.Mukesh, a resident of Sarai Bhogi village, was shot in the leg during a brief encounter with police and later admitted to a hospital. Police had been searching for him after the girls body was found on October 4 in the Usrahi village, Soraon area. The victim had left home on October 3, heading towards a Durga Puja celebration, but never returned. They also questioned more than 65 suspects. Surveillance footage showed Mukesh on a bicycle with the victim. He was later identified as the prime suspect and was located near a highway in Judapur Dadu.Upon being confronted by police, Mukesh fired at them, resulting in a retaliatory shot that left him injured. He was arrested and immediately taken for medical treatment.Confession and brutal details emergeDuring interrogation, Mukesh confessed to the crime. He admitted to offering the girl a ride on his bicycle and later developing the intent to rape her. After the assault, he killed the girl by striking her head with a stick to prevent identification.The post-mortem report revealed severe torture, with seven injury marks on the childs body. Both her arms were broken, and her head was slammed into the ground, highlighting the extreme violence of the crime.
