Uttar Pradesh: Tensions flared at the Kundarki Assembly seat in Muradabad, Uttar Pradesh, after Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Haji Rizwan confronted the police over alleged interference in the voting process. The controversy began when police officers were reportedly seen checking voter slips at polling stations, an act Rizwan deemed unauthorised.

SP candidate raises serious allegations

Upon receiving the information, Haji Rizwan arrived at the scene and objected to the police's actions. "The police have no right to check voter slips," he asserted, accusing them of overstepping their authority and creating hurdles for voters. Rizwan also highlighted irregularities in the election process, claiming that his polling agents were deliberately kept out of over 250 booths.

He further alleged discrepancies in the voter list, stating, "Names of many people have been removed from the voter list. At one booth, the police told voters to come after 10 a.m., and in some cases, officers themselves were casting votes."

Allegations add to pre-election tensions

The accusations have intensified scrutiny of the electoral process in Kundarki, a hotly contested constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Rizwan’s claims have sparked concerns among SP supporters, who have called for immediate intervention to ensure a fair election.

Authorities yet to respond

Local authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations. The Election Commission may be prompted to investigate the claims to maintain transparency and fairness in the polling process.

As the election unfolds, these allegations add to the political tension in the region, with voters and political parties closely monitoring developments.
