INDIA Bloc meeting: West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, declared that the Prime Ministerial candidate for the opposition alliance, INDIA Bloc, will be decided after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, ahead of the bloc's meeting in the national capital.
"As elections unfold, everyone will collectively decide," stated Mamata Banerjee, leader of the Trinamool Congress, addressing reporters in the national capital before the scheduled bloc meeting.
Responding to questions about Rahul Gandhi's role in the general elections, Banerjee refrained from commenting on alliance partners but expressed readiness for joint campaigning, pledging to rally for any INDIA Bloc parties.
During the press conference, Banerjee delved into the recent Parliament security breach, criticising the central government's handling of the country's overall security. She questioned, "If they cannot protect the new Parliament, how will they protect the country?"
Demanding an "impartial investigation" into the security breach incident, Banerjee expressed concern about the government's ability to safeguard the nation.
The meeting of INDIA Bloc leaders is scheduled for December 19 in the national capital, as announced by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh.
With the Lok Sabha polls just four months away, seat-sharing discussions are expected to dominate the agenda. This becomes crucial for Congress, especially after losing key states in the Assembly polls.
The INDIA Bloc, comprising opposition parties, including Congress, emerged to challenge the ruling NDA, led by PM Modi's BJP. The alliance aims to prevent a third consecutive term for the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Adopting the theme "Judega Bharat, Jeetega India" (India will unite, India will win), the INDIA Bloc resolves to collectively contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections against the BJP-led government.
