Uttar Pradesh: The phone chimed in a small home in Goyera Mughli vill of Banda in UP's Bundelkhand. It was February 15. A voice-familiar yet carrying the weight of brewing broke the silence." This is my last call," said Shahzadi Khan, 33.

Long hauls down in Abu Dhabi

A hush fell over her family. Her family Shamsher gripped the phone tighter." They asked me about my final want," she said, further adding," I asked to speak to ammi and abbu." Her mama heaved in the background, reaching for a son who was facing prosecution after being condemned of boggling a four- month-old child thousands of long hauls down in Abu Dhabi too far to hold, too close to lose. And also, silence. Shahzadi was gone. " We did n't hear from her subsequently," Shamsher said Monday.

Shahzadi made her last call

They searched. They prayed for news, digging through regulatory walls, unanswered pleas." We filed a writ solicitation in Delhi high court, where we were informed Monday about her prosecution," the family said. The day she made her last call and executed on February 15 the same day. No one knew how. Noone knew where her remains lay. Only that it was over." Her last solemnities will be held on March 5," fresh solicitor general Chetan Sharma said in court.

Shahzadi had no burn scars on her face

She had left India in hunt of a job." Shahzadi had no burn scars on her face," said her family. The scars had always made her scared. She wanted to remove it. She dared to dream and went to Abu Dhabi in Dec 2021 on a legal visa. When a man named Uzair from Agra reached out on social media, promising help her with plastic surgery in UAE. Upon appearance, Uzair transferred her to the home of his relative Faiz, where she was worked as a house keeper.

No surgery, no metamorphosis

No surgery, no metamorphosis-only labour and confinement in an strange world. In Aug 2022, Faiz's wife gave birth to a son and Shahzadi was assigned as the baby's caretaker. Four months latterly, on Dec 7, the child had routine vaccinations. By evening, he was gone. Fazi's grief turned to fury. Shahzadi was alleged of killing the child. Abu Dhabi police  arrested her on Feb 10, 2023, and then she was sentenced to death on July 31. She was captivated in Al Wathba captivity until her prosecution.

Shabbir Khan fought relentlessly

Her father Shabbir Khan fought relentlessly, transferring pleas to anyone who would hear- letters to the President, prayers to the PM. But the timepiece ran faster than justice. Shamsher demanded his family's body for a staid burial at their ancestral home and called for an independent inquiry, considering their FIR against Uzair for mortal trafficking." Uzair deceived my family with false pledges, taking Rs 3 lakh in cash and jewellery from her while also collecting the same quantum from his UAE relative to give them with a maid," he said." She was a victim, not a miscreant. She was innocent," Shamsher said." She only wanted to fix her scars." But what of the deeper scars the bones left before?
