Lokpal has called for a CBI probe against TMC leader Mahua Moitra in the cash-for-queries case and submit reports before it within six months. Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha in December last year for "unethical conduct" and has moved the Supreme Court challenging her expulsion.

What Lokpal Said?

Lokpal said that Corruption is a malaise that adversely affects the legislative, administrative, social and economic functioning. CBI has been asked to submit the report in six months. The Lokpal has also asked the CBI to investigate all the allegations made in the complaint from various aspects. Apart from this, before the final report, it has been asked to submit periodic report every month depending on the progress of the investigation.

Nishikant Dubey had alleged that Mahua Moitra took money from industrialist Hiranandani and asked questions in Parliament. However, Moitra has denied any wrongdoing and claimed she was being targeted as she raised questions about the deals of the Adani Group.

What is Cash for query case?

A "Cash for query" case involved accusing an individual of accepting payment in exchange for posing questions in Parliament. Mahua Moitra faced accusations of receiving bribes for raising critical questions about the government during parliamentary sessions. The allegations suggested that she had accepted bribes, including lavish gifts in return for her parliamentary inquiries.
The Lok Sabha's Ethics Committee conducted an inquiry into the cash-for-query accusations against her, finding the member guilty of "unethical conduct" and contempt of the House. The investigation revealed that she had shared her Lok Sabha credentials, including the user ID and password of the Lok Sabha Member's portal, with unauthorized individuals. The committee reportedly concluded their final report by recommending her expulsion.
